Flexible Side Gigs That Work for Busy Healthcare Workers

Flexible Side Gigs That Work for Busy Healthcare Workers

When you work in healthcare, you’ll quickly become acquainted with the demands of shift work and what it can do to your body. And for the most part, the last thing you want to do when you get off shift is to go back to work. You want to sleep, relax, and forget about work, right?

But sometimes picking side gigs or a few ad-hoc shifts can boost the bank balance, help you improve your skills, and give you more experience that fuels your career trajectory and gets you out into the world.

If you’re thinking of ways you can earn more money in healthcare without having to commit to a regular position, these roles are exactly what you’re looking for.

Event Medic Work

The thing to note here is that it is for events only, meaning it’s only for a one-off day or a few days, but its short lived. This makes them perfect for picking up alongside your normal shift patterns.

What types of events need medical personnel? Festivals, sporting events, large public gatherings, etc. It is mostly a case of dealing with minor injuries, sunstroke or sunburn, dehydration or crowd-related issues for the most part. Of course, you need to be prepared for other major problems like allergy attacks or sudden onset of health conditions like a heart attack or worse, but generally it will be a different pace and environmentthano what you’re used to working in.

Finding roles is pretty easy, whether you apply for Burning Man medic team positions, or you want to be a part of the medical support staff for football gam, baseball, or you like to work one-off shows that come to your local city, you can work as and when you wish.

Bank Shifts in Different Facilities

Bank shift work is one of the most straightforward ways to increase income without locking yourself into an ongoing contract.

You simply pick up shifts in different facilities where there is a demand for it. They can be hospitals, clinics, or care facilities, and often these will be at short notice, usually to cover sickness or other absences.

And the best thing about these shifts is control. You control what you do and don’t take,e and where you go and what setting. You’re not obliged to work anywhere. But it can give you exposure to different environments, different people,  and ways of working, which is only a good thing for your career.

Remote Medical Support or Telehealth roles

Remote work has opened up a lot of opportunities for many medical care workers in various roles. Telehealth roles, triage support, and more consultations are popular with many patients now and are all conducted outside of a traditional clinical setting.

Unlike other roles, these will be more structured in terms of timing, but you can pick up full-time or part-time roles that work around your shifts. You are still using your skills and knowledge just in a different format, and you’re not treating in person but offering advice, support, and assessing patients virtually. Plus, you don’t need to travel or move between locations, and you can either work from home or from a fixed location, making it even more accessible.
